Remember I mentioned my husband's gonna build me a fancy schmancy sewing table? Well, my question is how big do I want it. We bought a 4 foot by 8 foot (sorry metric users, I have no idea what that is in meters) piece of wood. I'm keeping the eight foot, but the question is the 4 foot. Do I keep it four feet deep or do we cut it down to just over three feet (a meter-ish, I know that one). I plan on keeping it at least three feet so my cutting mat fits well, but four feet is a bit of a stretch. Really, I mean that literally. I can't quite reach the back without standing and leaning across. Do I ever really need to reach the back? Should I take all the space I can get?
Do any of you have big 'ol tables and love them or are they just a bit ostentatious?
With the humongo table came the acknowledgement that the guest room is really my sewing room. I was a little embarrassed to have taken over an entire room just for little me, but my husband was the one who said it out loud and is okay with it. So I guess I can admit it. My name is Amanda, and I have a sewing room.

If you can fit it and you quilt your own quilts then I would DEFINITELY keep the 4ft depth. Having space behind your machine for the quilt to sit is very useful.
Yay on having your own sewing room!
If you have the room I would keep the big table. I agree it helps to have the extra room if you are quilting a bigger quilt, and I use a big table for basting, so I don't have to crawl around on the floor when pinning.
As long as my bed/sofa still fits in there I'm good.
When I had a big sewing room and a big cutting table, I loved the size of it. One of my habits is to leave items out and I have to work around the clutter, and the more table, the more time between de-cluttering. I have a small space now - no big table, and I miss it. I'd say keep as much depth as you can fit.
We are currently debating the same question. Although my sewing table isn't slated for production until early next year. Boo!! I'd love a 4 foot table, but my sewing room is kinda small...and we need the desk to be "L" shaped to fit my serger and the office/computer area. Mine will probably be more in the 3 foot range.
I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!
absolutely....
Bigger is Better....
and....its perfectly ok for you to have a sewing room!!
